Share Your World – Monday 30 November 2020

Here is my contribution to this week’s Share Your World from Sparks

What would you enjoy if you could do so without someone getting annoyed with you for enjoying it?  It MUST be something you aren’t supposed to enjoy because it is “bad for you”.

The one thing I do that I enjoy and ‘someone’ gets annoyed about is playing Sudoku on my phone. That ‘someone’ thinks it’s bad for me. I have also read that too much screen time is bad for you but I don’t think I have “too much” screen time. Too much, I believe is when everything else is neglected I don’t believe that I neglect what needs to be done so why shouldn’t I play Sudoku on my phone. Do I sound like a petulant child? Well, I’m a grown up so I can do what I want to!

Is it okay for men to wear the color pink?

Yes. Why not? There is no colour that is considered out of bounds for women so why should there be for men? Pink is a lovely colour. When I taught Grade One almost every single one of my little girls adored pink. On pyjama party night they all turned up in pink pyjamas – without exception! I do not remember being obsessed with pink when I was a child – I actually liked wearing blue. As an adult red became my favourite colour. My husband doesn’t wear pink. His favourite colour is blue. I have seen pink on many men and they looked great in it. If pink is your colour – go ahead and wear it whether you are male of female!

Can you curl your tongue?

Yes.

What, in your opinion, is the best room to put a fireplace?

Now that depends on what kind of fireplace you’re talking about. We have a room called a ‘braai’ room and it has a fireplace specifically for grilling food over hot coals. Some people won’t have an indoor braai because they think it will make the house smell of smoke but if you have a decent chimney and clean it after use the house will not smell.

We also have a wood burning stove in the lounge. It is awesome and heats the entire house.]

GRATITUDE SECTION (As always, OPTIONAL)

How do you show your gratitude?

I say, “thank you.” I also embrace all my privileges and enjoy them.

I am making the most of the South African Lifestyle and hope with my blog to share some of the adventures my husband and I are having in our retirement. We live at the Southern Tip of Africa in the small coastal town of Struisbaai. Earl and I have a Gecko off-road caravan and we travel around South Africa frequently. We are bird and wild life enthusiasts so are often in game reserves.

  1. Thanks Helen for Sharing Your World. That is one of my FAVORITE ‘gratitude’ memes! Thanks for sharing it too! ☺ That braai room looks like a great place to cook a meal, it doesn’t heat up the whole house being separated in it’s own space, and having a grill right at your fingertips must be grand! Wow! The wood burner looks very cozy too! And you’re the first person I’ve heard of saying that someone else was down on them for doing Sudoku too much. I’d carry on. It’s certainly not harmful, it sharpens the brain if anything! Have a great week!

    1. Thanks for your comments, Melanie. We South Africans are a bit obsessed with braaing our food and once on a skiing holiday in Switzerland with a South African tour group we even braaied in the falling snow! The die-hards among us will do it outdoors in all weather. We’ve grown a bit soft but still love to braai so an indoor one is the answer.
“Someone” only gets annoyed at my game playing because it takes my attention away from him. Lol.
